Language on the go

Learn a language while travelling on tour

Language Tours

Our customized Language Tours are designed in a variety of formats, set to meet your needs in language level and intensity. Our preferred design is our “language on the go” tour: we tour and teach at the same time. We structure the tour so that mornings are given to language theory sessions with vocabulary and grammar. Afternoons and evenings- we provide situations to practice speaking and apply your knowledge, linking the lessons to our tour activities.
At the completion of the tour you will return home more confident and more at ease in your new foreign language.

Langauge on the go

Language learning

There are multiple ways to provide the lessons. One approach involves Lingo Tours providing a teacher that follows the tour and dedicates lesson time in the morning at the hotel, in a systematic format (described below). Another possibility is that your Lingo Tours Tour Manager teaches your group, while travelling, through immersive teaching techniques using our program modules (described below). And the third format allows you as the Group Leader to use your language teaching skills to work with your group as you see fit on tour.
Whatever your preferences in pacing, activities and teaching: we will create a tour with you and assist you in the implementation. We want your students to thrive, whether they start the tour as language novices, or masters.

Here are some sample tour routes and lengths for Language Tours (in French, Italian, and English). The format is easily transferable to any language and region- such as Spanish, German, Swedish or Greek. You chose the level of language intensity, and length of tour. It is even possible to do a tour that initiates the traveler in the basics of three languages while travelling through multiple regions!

Four blocks of language learning

Vocabulary and grammar are the two basic necessities before advancing on any of the four blocks.
  • Verbal capacity
  • Reading
  • Writing
  • Verbal comprehension

Practical Learning

Applying the language learnt in real life situations helps build motivation.

The Lingo Method

Our “Language on the go” approach is all about creating motivation, increasing fun and reducing anxiety in a foreign language. Most importantly, by providing a movable classroom on tour- travelers are given many and different circumstances to practice the language and deepen connections to the culture. This immersion method allows you to use the four blocks of language in speaking, reading, writing and verbal comprehension, in each lesson. Our linguistic team have designed the ideal language and cultural immersion experience for you. Our tours will improve your language skills, your fluency, your speech and your confidence to use your new language.
To customize a language program for your group, we use the European classification system to assess ability:

Common European Framework of Reference for Languages

  • Can understand and use familiar everyday expressions and very basic phrases aimed at the satisfaction of needs of a concrete type. Can introduce him/herself and others and can ask and answer questions about personal details such as where he/she lives, people he/she knows and things he/she has. Can interact in a simple way provided the other person talks slowly and clearly and is prepared to help.
  • Can understand sentences and frequently used expressions related to areas of most immediate relevance (e.g. very basic personal and family information, shopping, local geography, employment). Can communicate in simple and routine tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar and routine matters. Can describe in simple terms aspects of his/her background, immediate environment and matters in areas of immediate need.
  • Can understand the main points of clear standard input on familiar matters regularly encountered in work, school, leisure, etc. Can deal with most situations likely to arise whilst travelling in an area where the language is spoken. Can produce simple connected text on topics which are familiar or of personal interest. Can describe experiences and events, dreams, hopes and ambitions and briefly give reasons and explanations for opinions and plans.
  • Can understand the main ideas of complex text on both concrete and abstract topics, including technical discussions in his/her field of specialisation. Can interact with a degree of fluency and spontaneity that makes regular interaction with native speakers quite possible without strain for either party. Can produce clear, detailed text on a wide range of subjects and explain a viewpoint on a topical issue giving the advantages and disadvantages of various options.
  • Can understand a wide range of demanding, longer texts, and recognise implicit meaning. Can express him/herself fluently and spontaneously without much obvious searching for expressions. Can use language flexibly and effectively for social, academic and professional purposes. Can produce clear, well-structured, detailed text on complex subjects, showing controlled use of organisational patterns, connectors and cohesive devices.
  • Can understand with ease virtually everything heard or read. Can summarise information from different spoken and written sources, reconstructing arguments and accounts in a coherent presentation. Can express him/herself spontaneously, very fluently and precisely, differentiating finer shades of meaning even in more complex situations.

Modules

To implement the lessons, each tour-course follows a system of language modules. There are a total of 14 modules, ideally students learn one module per day for the 14 day tour. Each module is designed alongside the itinerary so that excursions, activities and sights are incorporated into the modules. All modules include the four blocks of language learning. The modules increase in difficulty each day and are designed to match the group’s language ability, from beginner to advanced language usage.
Here is a Module sample for Beginner Language level students:
  • The first day on tour and the first module introduces the very basics of the language, including an introduction to the demographics and history of the language. Furthermore it includes the rules of pronunciation and spelling, polite phrases and greetings as well as fundamental verbs and conjugation.
  • Modules two, three and four cover verbs, grammar and vocabulary which give a good initial overall picture and understanding of the very basic levels of the language. Emphasis at this early stage is still on pronunciation, spelling exercises and verbal training tools - to help you start interacting on a daily basis in the language you are learning.
  • During this intermediate stage the modules teach more advanced conjugations such as past and future. After module five you will have a more solid vocabulary base which you can use to start forming sentences and interacting with the locals.
  • The modules at this stage of the tour are focus on sentence building, conversations and making dialogues. More verbs are added and travellers can make conversations in the past, present and future tenses.
  • The later modules are mainly focused on broadening the skills from module six and onwards. As per earlier modules, all four blocks are built upon so that you are really achieving a satisfying level of language and becoming comfortable using it.
